Latest Disney Podcasts from the DPD

Editor: I’m honored to have Mike from The Disney Podcast Directory join us for what looks to be another regular look at the growing number of amazing podcasts put together by fans of the Walt Disney Company. Is there any other company out there with such a following?
Well let me start off with thanking John for allowing me to post this on The Disney Blog. I am Mike Hamilton the webmaster the Disney Podcast Directory which you can visit at www.disneypodcastdirectory.net and this a post to let the readers here know of recent additions and updates made in the show listing over at my Disney Podcast Directory site.
The other day I posted some new items over at the Disney Podcast Directory. You can check out list of changes over there at the Updates www.disneypodcastdirectory.net/updates.aspx page. But over here for The Disney Blog I will be providing a bit more of a write up of the new additions.
But first, one of the other changes, is that “The Adventures of a Teenage Disney Geek” was added to the Disney Podcast Network’s listings as the podcast has joined the ranks of the other fine podcasts in the DPN (Disney Podcast Network www.thedpn.com ). This is a very well produced podcast by Keegan and as a listener you get to go along with him and “The Dysfunctional Super Family”. The cast of “characters” are varied and entertaining. There is Keegan, the host, his sister “Princess Bucket Head”, and their parents “Mommy Geek” and “Lightning Fast Fat Guy” (or just “LFFG”). Although you do get many experiences in the parks of Walt Disney World, there are some shows from outside the bubble. WAY OUTSIDE the bubble, like Keegan hanging with some of his High School band mates in New Orleans while they were there for a Bowl game.
And now on to the newly added podcasts.
- “Disney Tidbits” http://lrwh.us/Disney_Tidbits.html – This is a very new podcast that is created by Tairy Rich (also known as LittleRed) who if you listen to ”A Window to the Magic” you probably have heard several times as she and Paul Barrie are dating. The description from her page for this podcast (one of FOUR she does) is “Our simple fun facts, mysteries, or as I like to call them Disney Tidbits, are brought to you in upbeat short formats providing crazy behind the magic information you may know, may not know, have longed to know, or maybe a tidbit that never crossed your mind.” This weekly show is released on Thursdays and is a shorter length and gives you plenty of Disney Tidbits. I really enjoy listening to this podcast, and would recommend it to anyone looking for quick Disney fixes.
- “WDW or Bust” http://www.wdworbust.com/ – Is a podcast hosted by husband and wife team Garland and Mandy. They are two enthusiastic Walt Disney World fans who share their tips from their many trips to the mouse house. They do not seem to have a set schedule for publishing their shows, but they are fun and tip filled. You can really feel the Disney love from these two hosts who seem to “Get It” about always going to Walt Disney World.
- “The BritMouse Podcast” http://www.britmouse.com/ – This is the first UK based fan produced Disney podcast that I know of. It is a really interesting change from the usual point of view of Walt Disney World, as they have been to Disneyland Paris more frequently. They are on their Fourth show, came out since I added them to the directory and this blog post, and in it they started a segment comparing DLP and WDW, and started, where else, with Main Street. This podcast’s audio production started out the best of any podcast I can remember in a long time, and the quality has stayed though the four shows so far.
- “Travel Girl’s Tips for Disney World” http://speedplanner.podbean.com/ – This is a podcast I first heard of through the forums at the site for the Passporter, which I have been an annual purchaser of for several years. The host is the author of “Passporter’s Disney Speed Planner”. The shows on this podcast are fairly short, I believe in the 5 – 10 minute range, and on one quick topic cover a specific planning tip.
- “Disney Vacation Photos” http://www.jermsworld.us/DVP/ – This is a VIDEO podcast created to show off Disney Vacation photos. Each show is a vacation picture slideshow with Disney music in the background. The host is looking for everyone who wants to share their vacation photos to send them to him for inclusion on an upcoming show. This is a really nice relaxing way to view some pictures of Disney parks.
- “WDW Mic’d Up” http://wdwmicdup.dnwproductions.com/ - This show I am not too familiar with, as after he started he took a long break and just recently came back with a couple shows. I believe this is due to the host now being out of school for the summer. I am interested in seeing how this show develops over time, as it is always interesting to get different peoples perspectives on the Disney parks.
This is the first post I have done for The Disney Blog regarding the new additions to The Disney Podcast Directory http://www.disneypodcastdirectory.net . I hope to provide a blog post over here every time I make significant updates to the site or the shows listed on the site. Please feel free tom come over and visit The Disney Podcast Directory AFTER reading all the great posts here, as there are lots more podcasts than these few I mentioned here.

Barenaked Ladies cancel Disney show after drug rap

Sleeping Beauty Castle - A Present for Disneyland on its Birthday
July 18, 2008 Category: The Disney Portal No Comments »
Disneyland gave itself a wonderful present yesterday for its 53rd Anniversary when it was announced that by late this year the Sleeping Beauty Castle Diorama would re-open with a new show.
When the attraction is unveiled later this year, the “show” will differ from the dioramas of the 1980s and ‘90s, returning to the unique style of the original 1957 show and motion picture. Enhanced with new scenes and special effects magic, the re-Imagineered attraction will employ technology not available in the 1950s to represent scenes from the story of Sleeping Beauty, including the magic of good fairies Flora, Fauna and Merryweather, and the more sinister spells of the evil Maleficent.
This is a most magnificent development and as along as Maleficent keeps her evil fingers out of the development, Sleeping Beauty Castle should return to entertain new generations of Disneyland visitors.

DISNEYLAND PREPARES TO OPEN SLEEPING BEAUTY CASTLE WALKTHROUGH
July 17, 2008 - Anaheim, CA - The interior of Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland will open in time for the December holiday season, offering guests a “reawakened” version of its classic walkthrough presentation kissed with vibrant scenes of Aurora, her charming prince, the evil Maleficent and other characters from the beloved fairy tale film.
“It is fitting that we are announcing the return of a classic on the 53rd anniversary of Disneyland,” said Tony Baxter, Senior Vice President of Creative Development for Walt Disney Imagineering, who unveiled a model of the castle on July 17, the birthday of Disneyland park.
Next year marks the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney’s “Sleeping Beauty,” and the excitement generated by the anniversary of the motion picture spurred interest in the return of the Disneyland attraction.
Also celebrating the milestone 50th Anniversary of “Sleeping Beauty” is Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, which will release a two-disc Platinum Blu-ray™ Hi-Def disc, making “Sleeping Beauty” the first Walt Disney animated classic title to be released in high definition, as well as on two-disc Platinum DVD. A bonus feature on the new release will be “The Original Sleeping Beauty Walk-Through Attraction With Walt Disney Imagineering,” an immersive experience recreating the original castle walkthrough.
On April 29, 1957, nearly two years before the premiere of Walt Disney’s animated feature “Sleeping Beauty,” the Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough opened with an in-park ceremony featuring Walt Disney and actress Shirley Temple who, some 20 years earlier, had presented Disney with his special Academy Award – one Oscar and seven little ones – for “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”
The crafting of the 1957 walkthrough show fell to Walt Disney Imagineer Ken Anderson and animation art director and color stylist Eyvind Earle, credited with giving the motion picture “Sleeping Beauty” the distinctive and colorful look of storybook illustrations in medieval style. An entirely new look appeared in 1977 when the attraction’s redesign featured miniature dioramas, including moving figurines similar to the window displays in the shops on Main Street, U.S.A.
For the first time, guests who are unable to climb stairs or navigate the passageways of the Castle will be able to experience the walkthrough “virtually” in a special room on the ground floor of the Castle.

Fifty-Three Years of Memories at Disneyland
July 17, 2008 Category: The Disney Portal No Comments »
53 years ago today Walt Disney’s Magic Kingdom of Disneyland opened to the world with a, rare for the time, live broadcast television special featuring some of the biggest stars of the day and a crowd of excited invite only guests (plus about an equal number of guests who used counterfeit tickets or snuck in over the low berms). Walt’s vision of a little park where parents and children and family members of all ages, races, creeds, and nationalities could have fun together was a huge hit and quickly outpaced all estimates for attendance. No one since has quite matched the magic of the Happiest Place On Earth and I doubt anyone ever will.
Disneyland, the Imagineers old and new, cast members who make the magic every day, and all the special attractions, hidden nooks, exquisite detail, featured performers, and rich history hold a near and dear place in my heart. Everyday I’m away from ‘the park’ I feel a little heavier in my heart. But the magic is available in smaller doses at other parks like Walt Disney World, via the passion of its fans, and in my memories, which I will always cherish.
So Happy Birthday to Disneyland! And for everyone who, like me, wishes they were walking right down the middle of Main Street USA this morning instead of heading into work. Here’s a couple videos to help wipe away a few of those blues:

Disney’s ’subservient’ black princess animates film critics
July 16, 2008 Category: Disney news No Comments »
When Disney announced it was casting its first black princess for its latest animation film, the African-American heroine was hailed as a positive role model for little girls and an ambitious marketing ploy, not to mention an attempt to ward off the allegations of racism that have lurked since the heyday of Walt Disney Productions in the 1940s and 1950s.
